How does training as a mechatronics technician for refrigeration technology work?

The apprenticeship usually lasts 3.5 years and consists of a dual training program that combines theoretical knowledge at vocational school and practical experience at the training company.

During the apprenticeship, the prospective mechatronics technician for refrigeration technology learns everything about the installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning assemblies as well as their control and regulation technology.

The training content includes electrical engineering, refrigeration technology and control technology as well as the installation and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

The trainees also complete various internships to apply and consolidate what they have learned in practice.

At the end of their training, the prospective mechatronics technicians for refrigeration technology have to take their final examination to prove their knowledge and skills.

After successfully completing your training, you can work in various areas of refrigeration technology, for example in refrigeration plant construction or refrigeration service.

What do you learn in the mechatronics technician apprenticeship for refrigeration and air conditioning technology?

School education

During the apprenticeship, you will learn how to handle various technologies and principles that are used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems, cooling systems and heat pump systems. The mechanical and electronic aspects of the job are equally important, which is why the focus is on a combination.

The training includes both theoretical lessons and practical work and covers subjects such as thermodynamics, physics and mathematics. You learn how to plan, install and maintain refrigeration systems. This includes carrying out safety checks as well as fault diagnosis and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

In chemistry you will analyze various coolants and in technology you will learn how to deal with electrical circuit diagrams and assembly instructions.

As we specialize in refrigeration technology with natural refrigerants, we will provide you with additional training in this area. You will also gain an insight into the energy efficiency and environmental compatibility of these systems.

Mathematics is another important aspect of this training, as you will be able to calculate the required cooling capacity and select the right components for the respective system.

Practical part

In the practical part of your apprenticeship, you will build refrigeration systems, lay pipes and install insulating material. In your day-to-day work, you will learn how to weld with soldering and welding equipment to connect valves and pipes under the guidance of your training supervisor.

As soon as you have learned how to read circuit diagrams for electrical components, you will begin to lay your first electrical cables and integrate the cooling system into the circuit. You will also learn how to program and commission the systems. On-site customer training in the operation of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is also an important part of your training.

You program the control and regulation systems and check their functionality so that the customer can also handle the refrigeration system. If a customer contacts you one day due to a malfunction because something is wrong, you will be back on site to repair the electrical and electronic component. For this reason, specialist knowledge of electronics is also essential.

In addition, the maintenance and repair of refrigeration systems is an important part of the profession, as the safety of the system has the highest priority.
As the use of tools is essential for the profession of mechatronics engineer for refrigeration technology, this is also practiced. Over time, you will also realize that practical experience is the key to success.

Conclusion

With all these skills, you will become an absolute all-rounder in this apprenticeship.
