For Julius Tannert and co-driver Frank Christian, the race to catch up paid off. The duo took second place overall at the Stemweder Berg Rally, once again securing the runner-up title in the 2023 German Rally Championship.
At the last round of the German Rally Championship, four teams were able to compete for the championship crown and the showdown at the Stemweder Berg Rally became the expected clash of Germany’s best rally drivers. For the strong field of starters, every tenth was at stake on the 13 special stages around Lübbecke in North Rhine-Westphalia.
In the middle of the title fight, Julius Tannert and co-driver Frank Christian in the 300 hp ŠKODA FABIA RS Rally2 from Eurosol Racing Team Hungary. After another podium finish in Sulingen, the winners of the season opener in the Erzgebirge were leading the German Rally Championship at the halfway point, but had to relinquish their top position after a retirement at the Mittelrhein Rally. The duo picked up valuable points at the Saarland-Pfalz Rally with a strong second place and were one of the four title contenders at the start in Lübbecke. Just in time for the start of the rally, heavy rain set in and shook up the standings. Julius Tannert and Frank Christian opted for the right tires and were able to assert themselves confidently in second place. On the second day of the rally, the man from Zwickau defended his position against the strong competition in a fierce battle for seconds, set several exclamation marks with a total of five best times and secured second place overall at the Stemweder Berg Rally. With four additional points in the Power Stage, Julius Tannert and Frank Christian clinched the title of German Vice Rally Champion 2023.
“It was a great season for us and we finished first or second in every rally we completed. This makes us proud and shows that we were in a position to compete for the crown. I’m delighted with the runner-up title and it’s a great way to end the season after an exciting race to catch up. We never gave up and I would especially like to thank Frank Christian, the Eurosol Racing Team Hungary and my partners for their special support. The fans have also driven us on and on this year and I hope we were able to put on a good show,” said a delighted Tannert at the finish of the rally.
