Project description

As part of this project, we were commissioned to install a newly designed refrigeration system based on natural refrigerants. Until now, an environmentally harmful refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of over 1000 was used in the system. Furthermore, both the cooling capacity and the pump capacity were unregulated, which led to significant energy consumption.

The new system requires a cooling capacity of 800KW, which is realized with a natural refrigerant. This consists of a brine mixture and propane. Propane consists exclusively of carbon and hydrogen and has a GWP value of just four. Despite its flammability, propane is easy to handle. The entire brine circuit is designed with pressure rating PN 10. The process cooling system is also designed with PN 10, but is operated as an open cooling system

In addition, the waste heat is used in winter to heat both the production hall and the offices.

It is important to emphasize that the construction of the new plant was carried out parallel to the existing plant. The changeover to the new system was completed within a few days, which kept our customer’s production downtime to a minimum. This means that production only had to be reduced for this short conversion period.

Another special feature of this project was that the technical center was set up as a kind of container solution outside the hall.
